Hydraulic dredging with cutter suction dredgers
Introduction
Kurstjens operates a wide range of cutter suction dredgers and mechanical dredging equipment for the removal of sediments and sludge from various types of water bodies – ranging from narrow polder ditches and castle moats to wide canals, large lakes, marinas, industrial sludge basins and construction pits.
Method
Our cutter suction dredgers are equipped with a cutter head that gradually and precisely loosens the material to be dredged. The dredged mixture is then suctioned and transported via dedicated dredge pipelines. With the use of booster stations, this mixture can be pumped over many kilometres.
Thanks to this method and our experienced dredge operators, water turbidity is kept to a minimum. Hydraulic dredging is therefore the most environmentally friendly dredging technique for flora and fauna. Moreover, the high precision of our cutter suction dredgers allows sediments and sludge to be removed accurately and in a fully controlled manner.
Combination with other techniques
Our cutter suction dredgers are often combined with dredge depots, as well as with our mobile mechanical dewatering and sand separation installations. In this way, we deliver complete and efficient solutions for every dredging project – large or small.
